1st Mares In-Foal To Churchill Downs

Friday, 21st September 2007

The initial 3 mares covered by Victoria's Euroa-based Blue Gum Farm 1st-season sire Churchill Downs (Danehill-Silken Whisper, by Dieses) have all returned positive pregnancy scans. Studmaster Philip Campbell commented: "He has taken to his new job like a duck to water. Churchill Downs is working through a quality 1st book with great professionalism & letting down into a magnificent young stallion at the same time. His book continues to grow in size, with his appetite for the work ensuring he will have no trouble servicing them all." Last season's boom juvenile colt Churchill Downs (a $950,000 yearling consigned by Strawberry Hill Stud at the 2005 Magic Millions Premier Sale on the Gold Coast) was the 1st colt home in both the 2006 Gr1 Golden Slipper Stakes (3rd) & Magic Millions 2YO Classic (2nd). He retired to Blue Gum at a fee of $13,200 with an overall record of 3 wins (including the Listed Widden Stakes over 1100m as a 2YO & Gr2 Stutt Stakes over 1600m as a 3YO) & 5 placings (also including the Gr1 Ascot Vale Stakes over 1200m, plus 4th in the Gr1 Caulfield Guineas over 1600m) from 15 starts for $763,875 prize-money.
