Purple Zone Will Add 5,000 Mare Covers In Hunter

Friday, 21st September 2007

Meanwhile with today's opening of the NSW Hunter Valley Purple Zone (for horse movement within the zone to allow the 2007 breeding season to begin in earnest) Thoroughbred Breeders Australia president John Messara also told racenet.com.au: "It is very significant & will add another 5,000 mares that are likely to get into foal in the Valley. We have missed 3 weeks (of the breeding season), but I think we can make up ground." Messara also played-down the effect of some shuttle stallions being re-exported immediately from the Sydney Eastern Creek quarantine facility, noting: "We generally have an over supply of stallions. It will give new, young stallions a chance to succeed."
