Friday, 21st September 2007

UK 2005 champion 2YO filly Flashy Wings (Zafonic-Lovealoch, by Lomond) "has been retired after failing to recover from a recurring mucus problem in her lungs," reported racingpost.co.uk. The Mich Channon-trained & Jaber Abdullah-owned now 4YO mare finished unplaced in her final race, the Gr2 Windsor Forest Stakes at Royal Ascot in June. Flashy Wings won the 1st 4 of her 11 starts (including both the 2005 Gr2 Queen Mary Stakes & Gr2 Lowther Stakes at Royal Ascot at York) before finishing 3rd (beaten 2 necks) in the 2005 Gr1 Cheveley Park Stakes (6 furlongs) at Newmarket; subsequently in 2006 she finished runner-up in the UK Gr1 Coronation Stakes (8 furlongs) at Royal Ascot & then 3rd against older rivals in the Irish Gr1 Matron Stakes (8 furlongs) at Leopardstown.
