Monday, 24th September 2007

In the UK, Darley shuttler Cape Cross (Green Desert-Park Appeal, by Ahonoora) added a group success when 3YO colt Halicarnassus (Cape Cross-Launch Time, by Relaunch) came from the rear of the field to gain the judge's verdict against older horses in a 3-way photo-finish to the £47,000 (A$113,000) Gr3 Arc Trial Stakes (11 furlongs) at Newbury. Halicarnassus (ridden by Tadgh O'Shea for trainer Mick Channon) scored by a neck from 4YO entire Soapy Dancer (Danzig-On A Soapbox, by Mi Cielo) with a further short-head to fast-finishing favoured fellow 4YO entire Papal Bull (Montjeu-Mialuna, by Zafonic). Halicarnassus was a 35,000 guineas (A$91,000) yearling at the UK Tattersalls October Sale. Overall Halicarnassus now has 5 wins from 13 starts: last season he won the UK Gr2 Superlative Stakes (7 furlongs) at Newmarket; & this year he won May's Listed Cocked Hat Stakes (11 furlongs) at Goodwood & then August's Gr3 Rose Of Lancaster Stakes (10.5 furlongs) at Haydock, before most recently finishing 2nd (behind Echo Of light in track record time) in the Gr3 Strensall Stakes (9 furlongs) on the Knavesmire at York on September 5.
