Cherry Creek Wins NZ Canterbury Belle Stakes

Monday, 24th September 2007

Willowbend Stud sire Monashee Mountain (Danzig-Prospectors Delite, by Mr Prospector) added a black-type success when Australian-bred daughter Cherry Creek (Monashee Mountain-Stage Flash, by Lake Coniston) prevailed in a 3-way photo-finish to the NZ$50,000 NZ Bloodstock Listed Canterbury Belle Stakes (1200m) for 3YO fillies at Riccarton Park. Cherry Creek (ridden by Jarrod Todd for trainers Brian & Shane Anderton) scored by a long-neck from fellow Australian-bred Floridita (Fasliyev-Rose Pompadour, by Indian Ridge) with a further long-neck to Lady Sakura (Jungle Pocket-Lady Bay, by Kingdom Bay). Cherry Creek (passed-in for NZ$16,000 as a 2YO at the 2006 NZ Bloodstock South Island Sale) now has 2 wins from 6 starts. This race was the 1st leg in the 4-race 2007-08 Southern Filly-Of-The-Year series.
