Seachange Wins NZ Gr1 Stoney Bridge Stakes

Monday, 24th September 2007

In New Zealand, Darley shuttler Cape Cross (Green Desert-Park Appeal, by Ahonoora) added a Gr1 triumph when Queenslander Dick Karreman's multiple Gr1-winning 5YO mare Seachange (Cape Cross-Just Cruising, by Broad Reach) added a 2nd successive Gr1 victory this month with a 1-length win in the NZ$250,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Stoney Bridge Stakes (1600m) at Hastings, also for the 2nd successive year in this race. Favourite Seachange (ridden by Gavin McKeon for trainer Ralph Manning) defeated multiple Gr1-winning 6YO gelding Sir Slick (Volksraad-Miss Opera, by Paris Opera) & last season's Gr1 NZ Oaks-winning Australian-bred 4YO mare Princess Coup (Encosta De Lago-Stoneyfell Road, by Sovereign Red). Seachange (NZ's current Horse-Of-The-Year) now boasts 12 wins (also including last start's Gr1 Mudgway Partsworld Stakes over 1400m at Hastings for the 2nd successive year on September 1 & Australia's Gr3 Mannerism Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield in February, plus 2006's Gr1 Stoney Bridge Stakes over 1600m at Hastings & Gr1 Mudgway Partsworld Stakes over 1400m at Hastings, as well as 2005's Gr1 NZ Bloodstock 1000 Guineas over 1600m at Riccarton Park) & 5 placings (including March's Gr1 Futurity Stakes over 1600m at Caulfield in Melbourne & January's NZ Gr1 Telegraph Handicap over 1200m, plus 2006's Gr1 Kelt Capital Stakes over 2040m & Australia's Gr1 Myer Classic over 1600m) from 20 starts.
