Sheikh Mohammed Rescues UK Ch4 Racing

Monday, 24th September 2007

Sheikh Mohammed "rescued UK Channel 4 Racing from the threat of extinction, when the broadcaster accepted a bid from a Dubai-based company to sponsor racing coverage for the next 2 years," reported racingpost.co.uk. Terrestrial coverage of the sport "was plunged into uncertainty when the UK Tote (the 1st commercial backer of Ch4 Racing) announced in August it would not be continuing its association beyond this year"; as a result, Ch4 had warned future programming "could be scrapped unless a sponsor could be found willing to underwrite its output for a sum of £2 million (A$4.8m) a year". However Ch4 announced it has "entered into exclusive negotiations with Dubai Holding, a company owned by the government of Dubai & of which Sheikh Mohammed is founder & honorary chairman".
