2007 Census Of US Horse Farmers
Meanwhile American horse farm owners "are being asked to participate in the 2007 Census Of Agriculture, which will help determine the size & economic impact of the horse industry in the US," reported bloodhorse.com. The census (conducted by the US Department Of Agriculture) "is taken every 5 years to count the number of farms & ranches & the individuals who operate them". American Horse Council president Jay Hickey noted: "The Census Of Agriculture is our chance to stand & be counted. It is everyone's responsibility to make sure the equine community is accounted for in the 2007 Census." The AHC reports the American horse industry has a US$102 billion impact on the US economy & supports 1.4 million US jobs; there are more than 9.2 million horses in the country (which makes the US horse-owning population the largest in the world).
