UK Foot & Mouth Threatens Ascot Races

Tuesday, 25th September 2007

In the UK, the westerly spread of foot & mouth disease has "increased concerns for racing at Ascot (which has its big 3-day meeting including the Gr1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes this weekend) & Windsor as they teeter on the boundary of the total exclusion zone," reported racingpost.co.uk. Both courses "are already in the 10km surveillance zone, but confirmation of the latest foot & mouth case in Old Windsor (south of the town's racetrack & north of Ascot) leaves the total exclusion zone (which would rule out racing) closing in on both courses".
