No Brisbane Racing Until Feb 2008

Wednesday, 26th September 2007

Queensland Racing announced "the drastic step of suspending racing" in the South East Queensland red zone "following the confirmed equine influenza outbreak in the Eagle Farm & Doomben precinct & 6 unconfirmed cases in the Deagon precinct". QR added: "Subject to no further equine influenza outbreaks in the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast & Toowoomba precincts & that vaccination takes place in accordance with regulations, racing will re-commence as soon as practicable. However racing in the metropolitan Brisbane area will not resume until February 1, as horses will require sufficient time to recover from the outbreak in that area." Racing will continue in the state's green zone & QR "will work towards optimising TAB race meetings in that area." Meanwhile QR "will continue to plan a strategy to enable priority distribution of the equine influenza vaccine on Saturday to the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast & Toowoomba precincts within the state's red zone".
