NSW Minister Accuses Fed Govt Of Playing Politics

Wednesday, 26th September 2007

NSW Primary Industries Minister Ian Macdonald joined the public brawl by declaring: "It's outrageous for the Federal Agriculture Minister Peter McGauran to be playing politics with this issue, by blaming the Victorian Government for its state's smaller allocation. He's claiming Victoria originally asked for 1,500 doses when I understand from Minister Helper that he requested 15,000 doses but agreed to accept the smaller amount following the agreement by the Primary Industries Ministerial Council. It was Mr McGauran who suggested 1,500 doses for Victoria. It's just another attempt by the Federal Government to desperately try to divert attention away from the real issue here, which is their quarantine bungle. The Federal Government was asleep on the job & allowed this exotic disease to arrive on our shores & escape from its Eastern Creek Quarantine facility. For more than a month, the Federal Government has ducked & weaved to escape its responsibilities on the issue".
