Horse Flu Sends Mares Into Early Retirement

Thursday, 27th September 2007

Sydney's Rosehill-based trainer Chris Waller confirmed 3 horses in his stable have been retired to stud due to the on-going uncertainty over when they could race again, noting: "Magically has been retired. I had Polish Princess who was placed in a Gr1 in New Zealand & came over here for some black-type races. And a young filly of Gerry Harvey's, who is a half-sister to Catbird, is now going to stud." The 5YO mare Magically (Danehill-Magic Music, by Loosen Up) won 5 of 17 starts & earned $289,375 (with highlights including victory in 2006's Gr2 Yallambee Classic & April's Listed Juanmo Stakes, plus twice Listed runner-up). During 2007 fellow 5YO mare Polish Princess (Polish Precedent-Repeat Warning, by Warning) has finished 3rd in each of NZ's Gr1 Champions Mile, Listed Rotorua Stakes & Listed Listed Fairdale Stud Flying Handicap; & last year she won the Listed Mason Appliances Stakes. And unraced 3YO filly Gibraltar Diva is a Rock Of Gibraltar half-sister to 1999 Gr1 Golden Slipper winner Catbird.
