Mutawaajid Returning From UK To Waterhouse

Thursday, 27th September 2007

Dual Gr2-winning 4YO Emirates Park-bred sprinter Mutawaajid (Redoute's Choice-Elated Lady, by Vain) "will return to the care of trainer Gai Waterhouse after his disappointing British campaign over the winter months," reported racenet.com.au. Owned by His Excellency Nassar Lootah, Mutawaajid was sent to the UK Newmarket stable of Mick Channon after winning his initial 5 starts (including both February's Gr2 Royal Sovereign Stakes over 1200m at Randwick & Gr2 Hobartville Stakes over 1400m at Rosehill) before stepping up to Gr1 for the Randwick Guineas in mid-March, where he dead-heated for 4th. In his UK debut, Mutawaajid finished 9th in the field of 18 top-level sprinters in the UK Gr1 Darley July Cup (6 furlongs) at Newmarket & then a fortnight later carried top-weight of 9st 6lb when 11th in the field of 13 in the Gr2 Betfair Cup (7 furlongs) on the opening day of the Glorious Goodwood carnival. Most recently he finished 4th in the field of 14 in this month's Gr1 Betfred Sprint Cup (6 furlongs) at Haydock Park 7 then 4th again in the Gr3 Dubai World Airport Trophey at Newbury. Waterhouse confirmed: "It was exciting news when His Excellency Nassar Lootah rang to inform me his horse would be returning to my care. Bentley Biscuit will now have a travelling companion & they both will hopefully be back & racing for the Autumn, given the carnival is most likely to be postponed in Sydney by a month."
