Aust Horse Flu Delays HK December Sale

Friday, 28th September 2007

In Hong Kong, Australia's equine influenza outbreak "has had far-reaching effects with the cancellation of the annual Yearling Sale, which takes pace during the HK Invitation meeting in early December," reported The Sydney Morning Herald. The "reason for the cancellation stems from the fact that 27 of the yearlings purchased by the HK Jockey Club are stranded at Tim Boland's Limitless Lodge near Wyong". Boland said the horses "would not be flown into HK now, as the authorities there could not take any risks with their racing nor the Beijing Olympics next year". Boland added the HKJC "was giving consideration to staging the sale at Sha Tin next March".
