Exalted Ego Wins Birthday Cup
Kambula Stud stallion Blevic (Scenic-Blooms, by Biscay) added a black-type success when top-weighted 6YO gelding Exalted Ego (Blevic-Exalted Miss, by Keepers) scored a 2.25-lengths victory in the $50,000 Listed Birthday Cup (1800m) at Morphettville in Adelaide. Exalted Ego (ridden by Matthew Neilson for trainer Jim Smith) defeated 7YO gelding Merlot Now (Akhadan-Babelle, by Francis Bacon) & 5YO mare Come Fly With Me (More Than Ready-Positive Flyer, by Full And By). Exalted Ego took his record to 10 wins (also including 2007's Listed Cleanevent Stakes over 1600m & Listed City Of Adelaide Stakes over 1600m, plus 2006's Listed John Lee Stakes over 1600m) & 14 placings (including last start's Listed Classic Mile over 1600m at Morphetville on January 12, plus 2007's Listed O.J.Smith Challenge Stakes over 1800m & Listed Murray Bridge Gold Cup over 1600m, as well as 2006's Listed Schweppervessence Adelaide Stakes over 1600m & Listed Christmas Handicap over 1450m) from 51 starts for $447,470 earnings.
