Aust-Bred Rock Of Gibraltar Colt Wins South Africa Gr3
In South Africa, Coolmore shuttler Rock Of Gibraltar (Danehill-Offshore Boom, by Be My Guest) added a group success when Australian-bred 3YO colt Seventh Rock (Rock Of Gibraltar-Ruby Clipper, by Rubiton) scored a front-running 3.5-lengths victory against older rivals in the R200,000 (A$50,000) Gr3 Tommy Hotspur Handicap (1000m) at Turffontein. Seventh Rock (ridden by Anton Marcus for trainer Charles Laird) defeated 3YO filly Rosinante (Divine Act-Hasta Aqui, by Model Man) & 5YO Archipeligo. Last year as a juvenile, Seventh Rock (a $1,025,000 yearling consigned by Strawberry Hills Stud at the 2006 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale) won South Africa's Gr1 Gold Reef Resorts Medallion (1200m) at Scottsville & finished runner-up in the Gr2 SA Nursery (1160m) at Turffontein; overall he now boasts 5 wins & 2 runner-ups from 7 starts. Seventh Rock's Australian-bred 10-time-winning dam Ruby Clipper was 2000 Champion South African 2YO filly. Meanwhile his sire Rock Of Gibraltar has 8 yearlings catalogued for the upcoming Inglis Premier Sale in Melbourne, followed by 35 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale & then another 36 at the Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney.
