Te Akau Coup Wins NZ Matamata Breeders Stakes

Monday, 25th February 2008

Windsor Park Stud's Gr1-winning Australian-bred sire Thorn Park (Spinning World-Joy, by Bluebird) recorded his 1st stakes-winner when unbeaten juvenile daughter Te Akau Coup (Thorn Park-Beyond The Sunset, by Gone West) scored a 0.75-length victory in the NZ$120,000 Gr2 Robin Duke Of Bedford Matamata Breeders Stakes (1200m) for 2YO fillies at Matamata. Te Akau Coup (ridden by Jason Waddell for trainer Mark Walker) defeated favourite Il Quello Veloce (Captain Rio-Nishaani, by Gold Brose) & Raid (Pins-Vanilla Sky, by O'Reilly). Te Akau Coup (a NZ$150,000 yearling consigned by Pencarrow Stud at the 2007 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka) took her record to 2 wins from 2 starts; she is a half-sister to 2005's NZ$1.05 million yearling Don Garcia (Danehill-Beyond The Sunset). Meanwhile Te Akau Coup's sire Thorn Park has 3 yearlings catalogued for the upcoming Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale & 2 at the Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney.
