Bel Mer Wins JRA Stakes

Eliza Park Stud's multiple Gr1-winning sire Bel Esprit (Royal Academy-Bespoken, by Vain) added a black-type success when favoured 3YO filly Bel Mer (Bel Esprit-Drop Anchor, by At Talaq) scored a 2.75-lengths victory over older rivals of both sexes in the $100,000 Listed JRA Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield. Bel Mer (ridden by Craig Newitt for trainer Mick Price) defeated top-weighted 6YO gelding Cocinero (Encosta De Lago-Cantinela, by Zoffany) & 4YO gelding Zyzxx (Danehill-Geordoba, by Cordoba). Bel Mer (a $110,000 yearling at the 2006 Magic Millions Premier Sale on the Gold Coast) now has 2 wins (also including 2007's Listed Quezette Stakes over 1100m at Caulfield) & 4 placings (including both 2007's Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes over 1200m at Flemington & Gr3 Champagne Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley) from 8 starts for $278,700 earnings.
