Martini Red Wins NZ Darley Plate

Monday, 3rd March 2008

Vinery Stud shuttler Red Ransom (Roberto-Arabia, by Damascus) added a group success when Australian-bred 3YO filly Martini Red (Red Ransom-Pernod, by Centaine) scored a 1.5-lengths victory over her older rivals of both sexes in the NZ$100,000 weight-for-age Gr3 Darley Plate (1200m) at Ellerslie. Martini Red (ridden by Mark Du Plessis for trainer Ross Elliot) defeated Australian-bred Gr1-winning favoured 4YO mare Imananabaa (Anabaa-Iman, by Zemindar) & multiple stakes-winning 6YO gelding Clifton Prince (Volksraad-Trickery, by Straussbrook). Martini Red (who arrived in NZ as a foal-at-foot in December 2004 when her dam took up residency at Trewlawney Stud) now has 5 wins (also including 2007's Listed Northland Breeders' Stakes over 1200m at Ruakaka & Listed NZ Bloodstock Castletown Stakes over 1200m at Foxton) from 7 starts.
