Racing To End At Adelaide's Victoria Park
It is "almost certain racing will come to an end at Victoria Park in Adelaide," reported ABC News. The board of the South Australian Jockey Club has told its members it would be "financially irresponsible to keep the track open". The SAJC Board "decided to consult its members over Victoria Park, after Adelaide City Council rejected plans to build a new multi-purpose grandstand". Members have been asked "whether they want the club to refurbish the existing facilties or concentrate its activities at Morphettville". SAJC chairman John Naffine told The Adelaide Advertiser: "Regrettably the stance taken by Adelaide City Council has forced the SAJC to reconsider its options. The SAJC has considered all scenarios & has no doubt it has made the right decision." The SAJC has held race meetings at Victoria Park for almost 160 years.
