Dubai IRC Day-1: US$626k New Freedom

In Dubai overnight, Ali Saeed Belhab (who owned 1994 Hong Kong Vase winner Red Bishop) paid top price of UAE$2.3 million (US$626,000) for 6YO gelding New Freedom (Burooj-Beautiful Maria, by Ghadeer) during the opening session at the inaugural 2-day Dubai International Racing Carnival Sale (part of the revamped annual Emirates Racing Authority Horses-In-Training Sale) conducted in conjunction with leading European auction house Tattersalls at Nad Al Sheba. The Brazilian-bred sprinter (& stakes-winner in Brazil) has run 6 times in the UAE, easily winning a handicap by 6.25-lengths at his last start during the DIRC meeting on January 31.
