Inglis Melb Yearlings Day-3: $750k Exceed And Excel Colt
Darley Australia general manager Ollie Tait paid top price (& new sale record) of $750,000 for a colt by boom 1st-season sire Exceed And Excel (the 5th foal out of Gr3-winning 12-year-old Classic Fame mare Gentle Call) during yesterday's 3rd session of the 4-day Inglis Premier Yearling Sale at Oaklands Junction in Melbourne. The colt was consigned by Peter Liston's Three Bridges Thoroughbreds as agent & Liston declared: "We knew we had a really nice horse & people had told us he was the best horse in the sale. But this is unbelievable!" And Tait commented: "He's like a lot of the Exceed And Excels: he's very balanced, athletic & has a great attitude. We were very keen to get him & it's great that he's sold by Peter Liston, who is a good client." Liston paid just $140,000 for the colt's dam Gentle Call (in-foal to Coolmore sire Choisir & with this colt at-foot) at the Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale in Sydney last year. Gentle Call (currently in-foal to Blue Gum Farm sire Elvstroem) is a half-sister to: stakes-winner Call Spades; dual stakes-winner Tough Call (dam of 4 winners); & unraced Aggressive (dam of 5 winners, including both stakes-winner On Call plus 13-time-winner & multiple stakes-placed Special Call).
