Prize Lady Wins NZ Gr1 Auckland Cup Again

Thursday, 6th March 2008

In New Zealand yesterday, former Fayette Park shuttler Prized (Kris S-My Turbulent Miss, by My Dad George) added a Gr1 triumph when 6YO mare Prize Lady (Prized-Pen Bal Lady, by Mummy's Game) scored by a long-head (& then survived a protest from the 3rd horse) to win the NZ$700,000 Gr1 Auckland Cup (3200m) at Ellerslie for the 2nd successive year. Prize Lady (ridden by Mark Sweeney for trainers Graeme & Mark Sanders) defeated 5YO gelding Gallions Reach (Victory Dance-Dorinka, by Straight Strike) & 4YO gelding Resolution (Pentire-Amritsar Jet, by Jetball). Prize Lady (a NZ$13,500 yearling at the 2003 NZ Bloodstock Select Fillies Sale) took her record to 4 wins & 7 placings (including runner-up in the Gr1 NZ Oaks) from 23 starts.
