Ariege Wins US Gr1 Santa Anita Oaks

In the US, Ariege (Doneraile Court-Kostroma, by Caerleon) raced in 7th place in the field of 9 before "moving up 5-wide on the turn" & going on for a half-length victory in the US$300,000 Gr1 Santa Anita Oaks (8.5 furlongs on the all-weather track) for 3YO fillies at Santa Anita Park in California, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Ariege (ridden by Corey Nakatani for trainer Bobby Frankel) defeated favourite & last start Gr1-winner Golden Doc A (Unusual Heat-Penpont, by Crested Wave) & Gr3-winner Final Fling (Bertrando-Lily La Belle, by Java Gold). At her previous start Ariege finished 2nd in the Gr3 La Habra Stakes at Santa Anita on February 2, after running 3rd (in her North American debut) in the Listed Blue Norther Stakes at Santa Anita on December 30. Ariege was having her 1st start on a synthetic track (after previously racing exclusively on grass); overall she now has 2 wins & 2 placings from 6 starts for US$230,828 earnings.
