Coniston Gem Wins Schweppervescence Trophy

Monday, 10th March 2008

Ultra-consistent lightly-raced 6YO mare Coniston Gem (Greig-No Telling, by Gold Carat) led all-the-way to score a 1.25-lengths victory in the $200,000 Gr3 Schweppervescence Trophy (1400m) for fillies & mares at Flemington. Favourite Coniston Gem (ridden by Corey Brown for trainer Robert Smerdon) defeated 4YO mare Autumn Jeuney (Jeune-Autumn Moments, by At Talaq) & top-weighted fellow 6YO mare Brom Felinity (Encosta De Lago-Brompton Cross, by El Qahira). Coniston Gem (a $9,000 bargain at the 2003 Inglis Autumn Yearling Sale in Melbourne) now has 8 wins (also including 2007's Gr3 Hyderabad Race Club Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield) & 3 placings (including last month's Listed Melbourne Stakes over 1100m at Caulfield) & 2007's Gr3 Mannerism Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield) from 12 starts for $348,700 earnings.
