Monday, 10th March 2008

Coolmore stallion Encosta de Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek by Star Way) added a group success when multiple Gr1-winning 5YO gelding Racing To Win (Encosta De Lago-Surrealist, by Kenny's Best Pal) scored a 0.75-lengths victory in the $250,000 weight-for-age Gr2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney. In his 2nd start back on the track since October 2006 (due to injury), Racing To Win (ridden by Hugh Bowman for trainer John O'Shea) defeated Gr1-winning 4YO mare Tuesday Joy (Carnegie-Joie Denise, by Danehill) & fellow 5YO gelding Falaise (Grand Lodge-Perle, by Night Shift). Racing To Win (a $40,000 yearling at the 2004 Inglis Easter Sale) now has 10 wins (also including 2006's Gr1 Doncaster Handicap over 1600m at Randwick, Gr1 George Ryder Stakes over 1500m at Rosehill, Gr1 Epsom Handicap over 1600m at Randwick, Gr1 George Main Stakes over 1600m at Randwick, Gr2 Theo Marks Stakes over 1300m at Rosehill & Gr2 Hobartville Stakes over 1400m) & 4 runner-ups (including 2006's Gr2 Warwick Stakes over 1400m, Gr2 Phar Lap Stakes over 1500m & Gr2 Royal Sovereign Stakes over 1200m) from 16 starts for $3,000,285 earnings.
