Von Costa De Hero Wins Sires' Produce Stakes

Monday, 10th March 2008

Coolmore stallion Encosta de Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek by Star Way) added a juvenile group success when his colt Von Costa De Hero (Encosta De Lago-Piavonic, by Scenic) gained the judge's verdict in a 3-way photo-finish to the $300,000 Gr2 Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) for 2YOs at Flemington. Von Costa De Lago (ridden by Craig William for trainer David Hayes) scored by a short-halfhead from fellow colt Carnero (Carnegie-Matter, by Octagonal) with a further half-head to favoured filly Burgeis (Catbird-Grand Performance, by Palace Music). Von Costa De Nero (a $1.2 million yearling purchased by James Bester & consigned by Coolmore at the 2007 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) now has 1 win from 3 starts (she finished 4th on debut in a Listed race in October & then 4th last month in a Gr3 race) for $190,125 earnings.
