Zarita Wins Kewney Stakes

Monday, 10th March 2008

NZ Rich Hill Thoroughbreds sire Pentire (Be My Guest-Gull Nook, by Mill Reef) added a group success when daughter Zarita (Pentire-Gin Player, by Defensive Play) scored by a long-neck in the $300,000 Gr2 Kewney Stakes (1600m) for 3YO fillies at Flemington. Zarita (ridden by Greg Childs for trainer Pat Hyland) defeated favourite Absolut Glam (Snowland-Pine Away, by Pine Bluff) & Bashful Girl (Perugino-Strike High, by Pre Emptive Strike). Zarita (a NZ$195,000 yearling at the 2006 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka) now has 5 wins (also including last start's Gr2 Angus Armanasco Stakes over 1600m at Caulfield & November's Gr2 Wakeful Stakes over 2000m at Flemington) & 2 placings (including February's Gr3 The Vanity over 1400m at Flemington) from 9 starts for $564,900 earnings.
