EI Vaccinations To Continue Unimpeded

Tuesday, 11th March 2008

Meanwhile the National Management Group (which is responsible for managing the response to equine influenza) has granted approval for the racing industry's horses which are currently vaccinated "to continue to receive needed booster shots until at least June 30". Australian Racing Board chief executive Andrew Harding (the industry's representative on the NMG) commented: "The industry was confronted with a proposal from some of the State veterinary officers that all vaccinations cease from March 19. We argued against that & the NMG has agreed racehorse owners can continue to access vaccine to complete their scheduled courses of vaccination. This approval will continue until June 30 & in the meantime we will be progressing our case for permanent on-going vaccination to be allowed."
