Injury Forces Daaher Retirement To Shadwell Kentucky

Tuesday, 11th March 2008

Shadwell Stable's Gr1-winning 4YO stallion Daaher (Awesome Again-Irish Cherry, by Irish Open) has "torn ligaments in his right front ankle" & has been "immediately retired from racing". Daaher (who was preparing for the Gr1 Dubai World Cup on March 29) will now stand at Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum's Shadwell Nashwan Farm in Kentucky for US$30,000 this year. Daaher will join other Shadwell 1st-year stallions Invasor (US 2006 Horse-Of-The-Year), Gr1 Belmont Stakes winner Jazil (a half brother to champion filly & fellow Belmont winner Rags To Riches); & multiple graded stakes-winner Mustanfar. Daaher (a US$375,000 yearling at the 2005 Keeneland September sale) underwent surgery on his knee as a juvenile & began his career as a 3YO with victory in his 2nd start at Belmont Park in New York, before venturing to Canada & placing in the classic Prince Of Wales Stakes. Returning to the US he won 3 consecutive races in late 2007 (a Saratoga allowance by 13.75-lengths, followed by front-running romps in both the Gr2 Jerome Handicap & Gr1 Cigar Mile Handicap).
