Lacey Underall Wins Adelaide Cup

Tuesday, 11th March 2008

On the track, Eliza Park Stud shuttler Desert Sun (Green Desert-Solar, by Hotfoot) added a major group staying success when 5YO mare Lacey Underall (Desert Sun-Flirted, by Bluebird) made up for her desperately unlucky runner-up by a head last year (& then being denied her protest against the winner) with a 1.75-lengths victory over her 18 rivals in yesterday's $400,000 Gr2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) at Morphettville. Lacey Underall (ridden by Dwayne Dunn for trainer Dan O'Sullivan) finished powerfully from 3rd last in running to defeat front-running 6YO gelding Cefalu (Dushyantor-Cristal, by Semenenko) & fast-finishing fellow 6YO gelding Tails Of Triomphe (Archway-Spinning Heads, by Bestebreuje). Lacey Underall (a $30,000 yearling at the 2004 Magic Millions Adelaide Sale) now has 5 wins & 9 placings (also including February's Listed Port Adelaide Cup over 2250m at Cheltenham & 2007's Gr3 Carlton Draught Stakes over 2600m at Morphettville) from 43 starts for $477,160 earnings.
