Aust-Bred HK Sale Horses Breeze At Sha Tin

Wednesday, 12th March 2008

In Hong Kong, the 13 young horses (12 Australian-bred & 1 NZ-bred) to be auctioned on Saturday (March 15) during Part 2 of the HK International Sale made their first public appearance by breezing before prospective bidders at Sha Tin. They include: 4 lots by Coolmore stallion & this season's current leading Australian sire Encosta de Lago; another 4 lots by star Arrowfield Stud stallion & former Australian champion sire Redoute's Choice; & progeny from Coolmore shuttlers Dehere & Rock Of Gibraltar, Widden Stud's General Nediym & Vinery Stud shuttler Red Ransom. HK Jockey Club Head of International Races, Sale & Development Mark Player commented: "They really are a special bunch & we are looking forward to a top class sale. The horses will now undergo stringent vet tests before being finalised for the sale in the Sha Tin parade ring." Tim Boland (who prepared & consigned the Australian horses) watched the breeze-ups & added: "There are no weak horses in the group & they are all early types & easily the best bunch of horses that I have sent to HK. One feature with these horses is they all have the right temperament. That extra 3 months they had in Australia (due the equine influenza travel restrictions) has made them stronger & more mature & better educated."
