1st Mares In-Foal To French Derby Winner Lawman

Thursday, 13th March 2008

In Ireland, Ballylinch Stud announced 5 of the initial 6 mares covered by 2007 Gr1 Prix du Jockey Club-French Derby & Gr1 Prix Jean Prat winner Lawman (Invincible Spirit-Laramie, by Gulch) have been scanned in-foal. Lawman (a half-brother to both Gr1 Prix de Diane-French Oaks winner Latice & 2006 Gr1 runner-up Satri) was a €75,000 (A$120,000) yearling at the 2005 Deauville August Sale; he won on debut over 1600m at Saint-Cloud in November 2006 & added 2007's Gr3 Prix De Guiche (1800m) at Chantilly, before adding both the Gr1 Prix du Jockey Club (2100m) at Chantilly & Gr1 Prix Jean Prat (1600m) at Chantilly. However he then finished 6th in France's Gr1 Prix du Haras de Fresnay (Jacques le Marois) in his only subsequent start & was later found to be suffering from a liver ailment (from which he is now recovered). Overall he retired with 4 wins from 7 starts & is standing his 1st season at Ballylinch in County Kilkenny for €25,000 (A$40,000).
