Thursday, 13th March 2008

Also in Ireland, triple Group-winning sprinter Moss Vale (Shinko Forest-Wolf Cleugh, by Last Tycoon) has made a similarly strong start to his stallion career at Rathbarry Stud in County Cork, with 15 mares so far scanned in-foal. Moss Vale "has around 100 mares booked to him, of which more than 50 are either stakes-horses or half-sisters to stakes-horses (including Gr1-winner Eva Luna, who has been covered & is holding service)" reported Irish Thoroughbred Marketing. In 2005 Moss Vale won the UK Listed Starlit Stakes (6 furlongs) at Goodwood & was then sold (as a triple Listed winner & 6-time-placed in Gr2 & Gr3 events) for 260,000 guineas (A$676,000) at the Tattersalls October Sale. In 2006 he won France's Gr2 Prix Du Gros-Chene (1000m) at Chantilly & both Ireland's Gr3 Greenlands Stakes (6 furlongs) at The Curragh & Gr3 Phoenix Sprint Stakes (6 furlongs) also at The Curragh, before ending the season running 3rd in France's Gr1 Prix de l'Abbaye (1000m) at Longchamp. In 2007 he added placings in Ireland's Gr3 Greenlands Stakes (6 furlongs) at the Curragh, Gr3 Flying Five (5 furlongs) at The Curragh & Gr3 Renaissance Stakes (6 furlongs) at The Curragh. Moss Vale is standing his 1st season at Rathbarry for €5,000 (A$8,000).
