California 2YOs: US$800k Silver Deputy Filly
Kentucky-based bloodstock agent John Moynihan (bidding for wine mogul Jess Jackson's Stonestreet Stables) paid top price of US$800,000 for a Silver Deputy filly (out of Cox's Ridge mare Duchess Kiss) at the 1-day Barretts Equine March Sale of Selected 2YOs-In-Training in the Hinds Pavilion on the grounds of Fairplex Park in Southern California. The Kentucky-bred filly (a half-sister to Italian group-winner As You Like) was consigned by Jerry Bailey Sales as agent; she was previously bought by Bailey & Lance Robinson's Gulf Coast Farms for US$210,000 at the 2007 Keeneland September yearling sale. She clocked 10.2sec for 1 furlong during the pre-sale breeze-up & Moynihan told thoroughbredtimes.com: "She's gorgeous. Jerry Bailey loved her from day one. He thought she was one of the best fillies he's ever had. She's by Silver Deputy, who is a great broodmare sire, & she looks like she can go far. She's really nice." And Bailey, asked what attracted him to the filly as a yearling, told bloodhorse.com: "She had a great shoulder." And commenting on the resale price, he added: "We were expecting her to do what she did & you are always pleased when they do that. She was a very good filly & I am glad that other people appreciated her as much as we did."
