Dye Says Aust Jockeys & Horses Not The Best

Friday, 14th March 2008

Meanwhile former champion jockey Shane Dye (just returned to the Sydney track after his lengthy stint riding in Hong Kong) told The Sydney Morning Herald: "In Australia we don't look outside our horizon. We are very focused on us. Our horses are the best, our jockeys are the best. I've got something to tell everyone: our jockeys are not the best, nor are our horses. It's a great place to live & to ride & we do have great jockeys & horses. But not as good as Australians think. . . . . A bloke like Gerald Mosse (HK champion rider) would be better than any jockey in Australia. Christophe Soumillon is another better than anyone here. Mosse is an absolute genius: just goes out there & rides the horses. He doesn't make mistakes in big races." Dye added former Randwick trainer John Size (annually among the leading HK trainers) "is just a genius. He was a genius when he left Australia & his record spoeaks for itself. I don't think it would matter where he went, he just knows."
