Amelia's Dream Wins Silver Slipper

Monday, 17th March 2008

Star Arrowfield Stud stallion & former Australian champion sire Redoute's Choice (Danehill-Shantha's Choice, by Canny Lad) added a juvenile group success when unbeaten daughter Amelia's Dream (Redoute's Choice-Shalt Not, by St Covet) annihilated her opposition by 6.25-lengths in the $200,000 Gr2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) for 2YOs at Rosehill. Front-running favourite Amelia's Dream (ridden by Nash Rawiller for trainer Gai Waterhouse) set a new race record (1min 2.9sec) as she led in a female trifecta by defeating fellow fillies Hips Don't Lie (Stravinsky-Procure, by Centaine) & Glowlamp (Encosta De Lago-Push A Venture, by Shirley Heights). Amelia's Dream (a $250,000 yearling at the 2007 Magic Millions Premier Sale on the Gold Coast) now has 2 wins from 2 starts (following an equally impressive 10-lengths victory on debut at Canterbury last month) for $148,950 earnings. Amelia's Dream immediately firmed to short-priced favourite for Australia's premier 2YO sprint: the Gr1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney next month; however in a tragic aftermath to the race, over-night scans revealed Amelia's Dream suffered a "non-displaced fracture of the sesamoid" in her runaway victory & Waterhouse told The Sydney Morning Herald yesterday that the boom filly was only "a 50-50 chance of coming back to racing".
