Universal Prince Moves To WA Durham Lodge
Western Australia's Durham Lodge has acquired former Australian Champion 3YO & 4-time Gr1-winning stallion Universal Prince (Scenic-Biscay Bird, by Bluebird) for the 2008 breeding season & will stand him at $8,800. Universal Prince (an $80,000 yearling at the 1999 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) won the Gr1 AJC Australian Derby & finished runner-up in the Gr1 Victoria Derby; overall he notched 7 wins & 10 placings for $2,978,291 earnings. Durham Lodge previously stood his ill-fated sire Scenic (Sadler's Wells-Idyllic, by Foolish Pleasure), while on the dam side Universal Prince is a full-brother to Gr1-winning mare Universal Queen & also a 3/4-brother-in-blood to SA-based Kambula Stud's Gr1 Victoria Derby-winning sire Blevic (Scenic-Blooms, by Biscay). Durham proprietor David Smith commented: "To have Scenic's best son to stand at Durham Lodge is something very special for everyone involved at the stud. I have followed the career of Universal Prince with a lot of interest & some of his performances on the track were breathtaking. Our criteria on the stallions we stand is extremely tough. Universal Prince ticks every box & has the performance, pedigree & presence to make a very successful sire."
