Tuesday, 18th March 2008

Former Arrowfield Stud shuttler Unbridled's Song (Unbridled-Trolley Song, by Caro) added a US group success when daughter Eight Belles (Unbridled's Song-Away, by Dixieland Band) made it 2 successive stakes victories in a month by "accelerating into contention with a sweeping move on the turn & surging clear with an explosive burst of speed in the stretch" to post a 1.25-lengths margin in the US$100,000 Gr3 Honeybee Stakes (8.5 furlongs) for 3YO fillies at Oaklawn Park in Arkansas, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Favourite Eight Belles (ridden by Ramon Dominguez for trainer Larry Jones) defeated Gr2-winner Pure Clan (Pure Prize-Gather The Clan, by General Assembly) & front-running Kadira (Kafwain-Raw Gold, by Rahy). At her previous start Eight Belles annihilated her rivals by 13.5-lengths in the Listed Martha Washington Stakes (8 furlongs) at Oaklawn Park on February 17; that followed an equally dominant 15-lengths victory in her 2008 season debut on January 21 at Fair Grounds in Louisiana. Overall she now has 4 wins from 8 starts for US$158,650 earnigs.
