Florida 2YOs Day-1: US$625k Broken Vow Colt

Wednesday, 19th March 2008

Sobhy Sonbol (acting for Ahmed Zayat) out-bid trainer David Carroll & paid US$625,000 for a Broken Vow colt (already named Red Vow) during initial action early this morning (Australian time) at the opening session of the 2-day Ocala Breeders' Sales Co March Sale of Selected 2YOs-In-Training in Florida. The colt (out of 16-year-old mare Sedona Berry) is a half-brother to Japanese stakes-winner Eishin Hampton & clocked 21.4sec for 2 furlongs during the pre-sale breeze-up session. Sonbol told thoroughbredtimes.com: "He's beautiful physically & his breeze here was great. He's out of a Strawberry Road mare & he looks a lot like (Australian multiple Gr1-winning sire) Strawberry Road. The price was a little more than we thought, but if it's the right one, it doesn't matter. He was definitely the one." The colt (previously purchased for US$65,000 at the 2007 Keeneland September yearling sale) was consigned by Terry Oliver & Bo Hunt's O&H Bloodstock & Oliver commented: "I'm the world's worst appraising them, but we thought he worked really well & showed well here, so we were hopeful."
