Sam-Son Farm Co-Founder Liza Samuel Dies Aged 74

Elizabeth Samuel "who co-founded Sam-Son Farm with her late husband Ernie & helped turn it into one of North American racing's most recognizable owner-breeder operations" died aged 74 "after a long battle with cancer & emphysema," reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Sam-Son's many stars include: 1991 Canadian Horse-Of-The-Year & 3YO Triple Crown winner Dance Smartly (who also won the 1991 US Eclipse Award as champion 3YO filly & later added the US Gr1 Breeders' Cup Distaff); & 8-time Gr1-winning former NZ Glenmorgan Farm shuttler & dual 1997-98 Canadian Horse-Of-The-Year Chief Bearhart (who also won the 1997 US Eclipse Award as champion grass horse with victories including the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Turf). Sam-Son (which has won more than 60 Canadian Sovereign Awards) also bred 2007's leading US sire Smart Strike (Mr Prospector-Classy n Smart, by Smarten) who stands at Lane's End Farm in Kentucky for US$150,000.
