Florida 2YOs Day-2: US$550k Trippi Filly

Thursday, 20th March 2008

Also in early action on Day-2 in Florida, Darley USA president Jimmy Bell (buying in the name of Sheikh Mohammed's bloodstock manager John Ferguson) paid US$550,000 for a Trippi filly already named White Lamb (out of 13-year-old unraced Silver Hawk mare Chi). Ferguson did not attend the sale, but Bell told bloodhorse.com that Ferguson "reviewed work-out videos & various information about the horses that were offered". Bell added: "When John went through all the horses here, he came out with a colt & a filly that he was the most excited to discuss with Sheikh Mohammed. We got yesterday's colt (a US$625,000 Broken Vow colt out of 16-year-old Strawberry Road mare Sedona Berry: see details below) & John felt like this filly was the one that he & Sheikh Mohammed wanted to pursue. We were happy that we got both of them. They are very, very similar types. The horses that perform the way these have, they answer all your questions. Both have a lovely disposition & they are very straightforward." White Lamb clocked 10.0sec for 1 furlong in the pre-sale breeze-up sessions & her dam Chi is a half-sister to Sherriff's Deputy (dam of 2007 US Horse-Of-The-Year Curlin), leading Bell to comment: "That's obviously the most notable name running right now & it jumps off the (catalogue) page at everybody & would not go unnoticed. But as we all know, the individuals have to step up & perform & that (Curlin in the pedigree) is an added bonus as well. John's feeling was she had answered all the questions & her physical prowess on the racetrack was really what persuaded him to want to follow her to an end." Woodside Ranch consigned White Lamb, who was previously purchased for US$60,000 at the 2007 OBS August yearling sale.
