Casino Prince Wins Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes

Tuesday, 25th March 2008

Arrowfield Stud stallion & last season's champion Australian sire Flying Spur (Danehill-Rolls, by Mr Prospector) added a Gr1 triumph when 4YO entire Casino Prince (Flying Spur-Lady Capel, by Last Tycoon) gained the judge's verdict in a 3-way photo-finish to the $300,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Randwick. Casino Prince (ridden by Damien Oliver for trainer Anthony Cummings) scored by a head from Gr1-winning favoured 4YO mare Tuesday Joy (Carnegie-Joie Denise, by Danehill) with a further head to 4YO gelding Sniper's Bullet (Bite The Bullet-Yallah Terrace, by Yallah Prince). Casino Prince (a $140,000 yearling at the 2005 Magic Millions Adelaide Sale) now has 5 wins (also including 2007's Gr2 Alister Clark Stakes over 1600m at Moonee Valley & 2006's Gr3 Skyline Stakes over 1200m at Randwick) & 4 placings (including last start's Gr1 Darley Australian Cup over 2000m at Flemington on March 8 & the Gr2 Carlyon Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley on January 25, plus 2007's Gr1 Cadbury Guineas over 1600m at Caulfield) from 20 starts for $750,500 earnings. (Click on the link for full race details from Group Race Results at AAP Racing.) Meanwhile a majority share in Casino Prince was purchased last month by former Queensland coal miner Nathan Tinkler as a foundation sire for Patinack Farm (formerly Alanbridge Stud at Aberdeen in the NSW Hunter Valley) when he retires from racing. And Gerry Harvey's Baramul Stud is offering a yearling 3/4-brother to Casino Prince (by star Arrowfield stallion Redoute's Choice) on Day-4 (Thursday) at this week's Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.
