Florida 2YOs Average Up 36.6%

Tuesday, 25th March 2008

In the US auction ring, new records were set for total receipts, average & median at the 2-day Ocala Breeders' Sales Co March Sale of Selected 2YOs-In-Training in Florida. Overall 233 lots sold for US$33,380,000 (up 25.8% on last year's 253 sold for US$26,541,000) while the US$143,262 average was up 36.6% (last year US$104,905). Similarly the new record US$100,00 median was up 22% as 31 horses sold for US$300,000 or more (compared with 11 in 2007). OBSC director of sales Tom Ventura told thoroughbredtimes.com: "In this business & in my position, you try & keep an even keel. When you have really good days, you try to tone it down for days it may not be as good, but this is hard for me to contain. It was an unbelievable sale. The quality of horses was exceptional & also the fact that some of the buyers that have been sitting on the sidelines made the market broader. The top end took care of itself, but then the middle & upper-middle were very competitive. The good news is: we had 31 horses at US$300,000 plus & they weren't all bought by 4 buyers. It was spread out."
