Universal Ruler Wins Easter Stakes

Tuesday, 25th March 2008

Ill-fated former Durham Lodge stallion Scenic (Sadler's Wells-Idyllic, by Foolish Pleasure) added a black-type success when favoured 3YO colt Universal Ruler (Scenic-Rulings, by Hurricane Sky) made it 2 successive stakes victories in a fortnight with a 1-length win over his older rivals in the $75,000 Listed City Of Belmont Easter Stakes (1500m) at Ascot. Universal Ruler (ridden by Jason Whiting for trainer Darren McAuliffe) defeated the 5YO geldings I Command (Commands-Eyenar, by Jetball) & Zhamenka (Magic Of Money-Kasatkina, by Semipalatinsk). Universal Ruler (a $42,000 yearling at the 2006 Magic Millions Premier Sale in Perth) now has 5 wins (also including last start's Listed Bunbury Stakes over 1400m, plus 2007's Listed Perth Stakes over 1100m at Ascot) from 6 starts for $221,600 earnings.
