High Court Ruling On Betfair-WA Case This Week
The High Court "will hand down its verdict on Betfair's challenge to Western Australia's betting laws this week, with the gaming operator at unbackable odds to win a case that has important implications for e-commerce & state-by-state legislative battles," reported The Australian newspaper. Betfair director of corporate & business affairs Andrew Twaits said "the best-case scenario (after Thursday's judgment) is that state governments will be willing to do business with us." Betfair was granted the 1st betting exchange licence in Australia by the Tasmanian Government in 2006 & the Victorian Government has already signed an agreement which allows Betfair to publish its race fields in return for a product fee.
