US Champ Rags To Riches Retired & Heads To Giant's Causeway

In the US, last year's Champion 3YO filly Rags To Riches (A.P.Indy-Better Than Honour, by Deputy Minister) who became the 1st female in 102 years to win the final leg of the US 3YO Triple Crown when she defeated 6 colts to win the US$1 million Gr1 Belmont Stakes (12 furlongs) at Belmont Park (despite stumbling at the start & finding herself 7-lengths behind the leaders after 2 furlongs) "has been retired after re-injuring her right front pastern," reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Owners Michael Tabor & Derrick Smith will breed Rags To Riches to former Coolmore shuttler Giant's Causeway (who stands for US$125,000 at Ashford Stud in Kentucky). Overall Rags To Riches (a half-sister to 2006 Gr1 Belmont Stakes winner Jazil & a US$1.9-million purchase at the 2005 Keeneland September yearling sale) recorded 5 wins (also including the Gr1 Kentucky Oaks, Gr1 Las Virgenes Stakes & Gr1 Santa Anita Oaks, as well as finishing 2nd in the Gr1 Gazelle Stakes) from 7 starts for US$1,342,528 earnings.
