Magic Millions Day-4: $2.2m Redoute's Choice Colt
In the auction ring, Roger Langley (bidding on behalf of Nathan Tinkler's Patinack Farm) out-bid Sydney trainer Tim Martin (acting on behalf of Perth businessman Paul Silvestro) & continued Patinack's recent massive buying splurge when paying a new Magic Millions record price of $2.2 million for a colt by star Arrowfield Stud stallion & former Australian champion sire Redoute's Choice (the 6th foal out of 12-year-old dual-winning Dance Floor mare Gypsy Dancer) during yesterday's 4th session at the 8-day MM Yearling Sale on the Queensland Gold Coast. The colt (consigned by Coolmore Stud as agent) is a 3/4-brother to 2004 Australian Champion 2YO Dance Hero, who boasts 10 wins (including the Gr1 Golden Slipper, Gr1 AJC Sires' Produce Stakes, Gr1 Champagne Stakes, Gr1 Salinger Stakes, Gr2 Royal Sovereign Stakes, Gr2 Canterbury Stakes, Gr3 Missile Stakes, Gr3 Skyline Stakes & listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic) & 8 placings (including the Gr1 Manikato Stakes, Gr2 Premiere Stakes, Gr2 Hobartville Stakes, Gr2 San Domenico Stakes, Gr2 Canterbury Stakes, Gr3 Gilgai Stakes & Listed AJC Breeders' Plate) from 33 starts for $3.94 million earnings. Langley said the colt will "most likely" be trained by Sydney's Anthony Cummings & noted: "He's from a mare who's produced one of the best juveniles of modern time. This colt is a cracking individual & has a real stallion's pedigree. He's one of the colts of the sale." The colt was previously pin-hooked by Coolmore for an Australian weanling record $1.15 million at last June's Magic Millions National Sale & Coolmore's Tom Magnier commented: "It's a great result. Deep down I was hoping for $2 million, but at a sale you never know. This is the 1st colt we've pin-hooked & it's been a great success."
