Grand Journey Wins WA Oaks

Monday, 31st March 2008

Ealing Park's former Gr1-winning stallion Good Journey (Nureyev-Chimes Of Freedom, by Private Account) added a group success when favoured daughter Grand Journey (Good Journey-Grand Prospect, by Flying Spur) scored a 2-lengths victory in the $250,000 Gr3 West Australian Oaks (2400m) for 3YO fillies at Ascot in Perth. Front-running Grand Journey (ridden by William Pike for trainer David Brideoake) defeated Star Encounter (Jeune-Lady Ashford, by Royal Academy) & My Becks (Second Empire-My Zapherine, by Laranto). Grand Journey (a $6,500 yearling at the 2006 Inglis Autumn Sale in Melbourne) now has 4 wins (also including last start's Listed Natasha Stakes over 2200m at Ascot on March 15) & 5 placings from 16 starts for $292,850 earnings. Meanwhile winning sire Good Journey was used almost exclusively by Written Bloodstock (covering 27 mares in 2003, 44 in 2004, 47 in 2005 & 22 in 2006) before being exported to the US & currently standing at Magali Farms in California.
