Valpolicella Wins NZ Manawatu Classic

Vinery Stud shuttler Red Ransom (Roberto-Arabia, by Damascus) added a group success when daughter Valpolicella (Red Ransom-Riesling, by Last Tycoon) scored a 0.75-lengths victory against the males in the NZ$100,000 Gr3 Manawatu Clasic (2000m) for 3YOs at Awapuni. Valpolicella (ridden by Gavin McKeon for trainer Roger James) defeated favoured colt Nom De Jeu (Montjeu-Prized Gem, by Prized) & the gelding Thumbs Up (Shinko King-Regelle, by Exploding Prospect). Valpolicella (a NZ$150,000 yearling at the 2006 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka) took her record to 3 wins (also including 2007's Listed Great Northern Champagne Stakes over 1600m) & 1 placing from 11 starts for A$105,300 earnings.
